In the last few years the food trucks have seen a meteoric rise in popularity. Though food trucks have been around since the 1930s they were revitalised in L.A. around 2011 and have spread across the USA, with Orlando and Kissimmee being no exception. Though some food trucks have a regular schedule or are a feature of a particular area, others summon diners with almost ‘flash mob’ like tweets. Food trucks are not fast food they are mobile restaurants, the quality of the food will be excellent and often with a twist, so do not expect standard menu fare.
Kissimmee has a more predictable schedule to it’s food truck calendar, with a Food Truck Park now established at Disney Springs. However for authentic food truck events we recommend Food Truck Friday in Celebration, usually held at the Town Hall one Friday per month from 5 – 9.30pm. Upcoming dates are as follows June 12, July 10, August 14, September 11 (to see the full calendar click <HERE> ) This is a fun event for all the family and the Celebration area is always a pleasure to spend time in.
If you can’t restrict your food truck habit to once a month, or you aren’t in town for the Celebration event then Food Truck Bazaar may be the answer. Established in Kissimmee in 2011, The Food Truck Bazaar goes from venue to venue throughout Orlando and the surround area. With a wide selection of vendors the biggest complaint I hear, which isn’t really a complaint, is there were so many different foods to choose from that the decision making process was nearly impossible. You will just have to come back again and again. There is almost always a bazaar with food, beer and live music at the Citrus Bowl in the hours prior to the home games of Orlando City Soccer Club, but for a full calendar of upcoming Food Truck Bazaar events click <HERE>
The food trucks attending any given event will vary and are subject to last minute changes, but that is part of the fun. So just round up the gang, pack a blanket or some folding chairs/table and experience a very American tradition, you are almost guaranteed to meet some new friends and get to know the community you are visiting, while tasting some fine cuisine at a local food truck event.
