Bok Tower Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and has been thrilling visitors to Lake Wales, Central Florida since it was first opened in 1929 by Edward W. Bok a Dutch immigrant. A regular visitor to the area from his home in Pennsylvania he loved the scenic beauty and tranquility of the area and nearby Iron Mountains. When his grandmother told him to “make you the world a bit better or more beautiful because you have lived in it,” he took her literally and purchased the land at Lake Wales as a perfect setting for his project. With the help of landscape architect Fredrick Law Olmsted he went about transforming the land into nearly 50 acres of lush landscape gardens, with a unique art-deco and neo-gothic Singing Tower, home to a 60 bell carillon and magnificent 1930s Mediterranean-style mansion.
A must see for lovers of all things gardening or those just wanting to escape to a place of tranquil beauty. There is also a wide ranging of events held throughout the year, including cultural, historic, art, horticultural and seasonal etc. For more information go to the Bok Tower Garden website.
